Career Spotlight: Actuarial Science

As defined by Wikipedia: Actuarial Science applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in the insurance and finance industries. It includes a number of interrelating disciplines, including probability and statistics, finance, and economics. Many Rose-Hulman students have an interest in this field, and the Math department has an excellent page of information they have put together on their website. In addition, the Actuarial Society of Greater New York is hosting the nation’s largest actuarial career fair on January 13th at Columbia University in New York. For more information on this event or how to contact someone to receive more information on this career field, click here to download a PDF with all the information you should need. You can also click here to visit the ASNY website and get full details on the event.

Company Spotlight: PBwiki

PBwiki is the world’s largest private wiki host and millions depend on them for their business, their classroom, and their personal lives. They handle a lot of data (more pages than Wikipedia!), a TON of web traffic, and they have a lot of fun doing it. They are VC-funded but are making real revenue. What makes them tick? They love building useful tools for the web. They develop new features on Monday, and deploy it to millions of users by Friday. And…they are looking for web engineers with a variety of experience (see their posting on eRecruiting).
