TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team has been selected to finish fifth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season, in a preseason poll of league coaches released Thursday.
Rose-Hulman finished its second consecutive season with more than 20 wins and less than 10 losses in 2012. The Fightin' Engineers tied for third in the HCAC standings with a 21-9 overall record and a 7-2 mark in league matches.
The College of Mount St. Joseph earned the top spot with 88 poll points and four first-place votes. Transylvania University received the most first-place votes with five and was picked second with 81 points. Defiance College came home third in the preseason poll at 77 points.
Hanover (62 points) was selected fourth, followed by a tie between Rose-Hulman and Bluffton for fifth at 60 points. Anderson (42), Manchester (31), Franklin (30) and Earlham (19) rounded out the poll.
The Fightin' Engineer volleyball roster for 2013 includes nine letter winners and seven talented newcomers, including three from the state of Illinois.
Rose-Hulman opens the season on Aug. 30 at the Otterbein Invitational. The home schedule begins with a Sept. 6 match against Greenville.
