HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior
Anna Lewer (Indianapolis/Lutheran) and junior
Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio) swept
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive and
Defensive Player of the Week honors, in results released today.
Lewer smashed 30 kills (4.29 kps) and finished the week
with a .375 hitting percentage to lead Rose-Hulman's offensive
effort in wins at Hanover and Manchester. Against Hanover,
Lewer had 13 kills and 12 digs. She followed that
performance with 17 kills and 10 digs against Manchester
paced the Engineers defense last week and earned her third HCAC
Defensive Player of the Week award. The junior led the
Engineers with 31 digs, registering 4.43 digs per set, in the two
victories. She tallied 16 digs at Hanover with 15
digs at Manchester.
Dangel helped Rose-Hulman finish a perfect 4-0 and win the
Illinois College Invitational to kick off the 2012 season last
weekend. She also earned a spot on the event's all-tournament
team for her efforts.
Lewer stands third in Rose-Hulman history with 1,134 kills and
is seventh all-time with 1,389 digs. Dangel is rapidly
closing in on the 1,000-dig mark with 874 in her career.
Rose-Hulman stands 14-7 on the season and 3-1 in HCAC
play. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Mount St. Joseph on
Thursday and Franklin on Friday.
