BLOOMINGTON, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal Acadiana) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season after a historic performance on Friday.
Montgomery ran the first sub-five minute women's mile in HCAC and Rose-Hulman history to finish fourth against NCAA Division I competition at Indiana University on Friday night.
Montgomery ran a time of 4:59.65 to set a new school record in the mile run for the third time this season. The mark ranks seventh nationally in the NCAA Division III list in 2014 and is also an all-time Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record.
Montgomery qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships earlier this season and placed 71st of over 300 runners at the national event. Her time is expected to allow a return to national competition at the Division III Track and Field Nationals next month.
The Fightin' Engineers will compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday at Anderson University.
