Liz Evans Breaks NCAA D-III High Jump Record Again

evans-pic-barTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- For the third time this season, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) snapped the NCAA Division III all-time national record in the outdoor high jump on Friday night.

Evans became the first athlete in NCAA Division III women's high jump history to clear 6' 0" with her successful leap at the University of Louisville Cardinal Invitational.

The mark of 6' 0" is also a provisional qualification for the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held at Drake University on June 19-23.

For her efforts, Evans was honored as the NCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.

Evans effort was one of three strong performances for Rose-Hulman track and field performers from May 10-13.

Senior Tyler Hannan (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) moved into potential NCAA Division III national qualifying range in the 400-meter dash with a strong effort on Friday at Louisville.

Hannan ran the 11th fastest time in NCAA Division III this spring and the second fastest mark in Rose-Hulman history with a time of 47.95 seconds.

Senior Collin Crowson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) added a victory in the men's pole vault at the Ohio Wesleyan Last Chance Invitational on Monday.  Crowson cleared a season-best height of 15' 9 3/4" for a mark that currently ranks No. 12 nationally this season.

Other performers included senior Travis Stallings (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) adding a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.84.  Stallings recorded the second fastest time of his career in the effort.

On Thursday, senior Trey Cahill (Auburn/DeKalb) placed fourth in the men's hammer throw at the North Central College Gregory Invitational.

Rose-Hulman 2011 graduate Derek Bischak also ran in the meet as a member of the Indiana Invaders.  Bischak completed the 1,500-meters in a time of 3:55.21 for sixth place overall.

The final meet prior to this month's NCAA Division III Nationals will take place next Friday at North Central College in Illinois.  The NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships are set for May 23-25 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
