TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team has earned the No. 2 seed for this weekend's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at West Indy Racquet Club.
Rose-Hulman finished in a three-way tie for second place in the league at 6-2 and enters the HCAC Tournament with an 8-2 mark this season. The Fightin' Engineers won a three-way tiebreaker over Franklin (No. 3 seed) and Transylvania (No. 4) to earn the second bye in the six-team event.
Transylvania will face No. 5 Anderson University and Franklin squares off with No. 6 Manchester University on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Rose-Hulman will face the winner of the Franklin vs. Manchester match at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Hanover battles the winner of Transylvania vs. Anderson on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The winner of both Saturday semifinal matches will compete for the HCAC Tournament championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Senior Marie Stettler (Edgerton, Wis./Senior) holds the No. 1 singles spot with a 4-7 mark this season and is 5-6 in doubles play. Junior Suzana Mohd (Puchong, Malaysia/Mara University) leads the singles records at 10-2 and is also 6-5 in doubles play. Senior Paige Cook (Terre Haute/North) holds the No. 3 singles spot at 6-3 and is 5-4 in doubles play.
Senior Colleen Stevenson (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional) has a 7-3 mark at No. 4 singles, with junior Kylie McCollum (Lee's Summit, Mo./West) at 6-2 at No. 5 singles and 6-3 in doubles. Sophomore Lauren Miller (Highland, Ill.) rounds out the singles players with a 7-2 mark at No. 6.
The doubles team of senior Lauren Reberger (Brazil/Northview) and freshman Sydney Short (Langley, Va./Grafton) round out the usual lineup with a 7-2 mark at No. 3 doubles.
The NCAA Division III Tournament will take place after the spring season in May at a site to be determined.
