TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology men's tennis team has been picked to finish third in the
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season, in a
preseason poll of league coaches.
Rose-Hulman earned a share of a three-way tie for the HCAC title last spring to earn the first regular season league championship in men's tennis history at the college. The Fightin' Engineers finished 7-1 overall and recorded their 14th consecutive season at .500 or above with a 10-8 mark.
Rose-Hulman returns two players with significant
varsity experience to the 2012 squad. Junior Ben
Paras (Tucson, Ariz./Nordhoff) earned first-team all-HCAC
honors after winning six singles matches and six doubles matches
last season. Junior Devon Fritz (Lakeside,
Calif./West Hills) compiled a 13-6 singles record and was
14-7 in doubles play last season.
Rose-Hulman features a talented group of newcomers and returning players who will seek additional time to round out the 12-player roster.
Earlham was the preseason league title favorite with all 10 first-place votes. Transylvania was picked to finish second, followed by Rose-Hulman.
The Fightin' Engineers open the men's tennis season with a match against Earlham on Feb. 11 at the Wabash Valley Tennis Center.
