TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology swept the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Swimmer of the Week Awards after two solid performances during the season's opening weekend.
Freshman Ellie Hong (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) was named the CCIW Women's Swimmer of the Week, and sophomore Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) earned the Men's Swimmer of the Week award.
Hong won the 100-yard backstroke at Purdue University's Indiana Intercollegiate Meet featuring NCAA Division I competitors on Saturday. Hong recorded a time of 58.61, breaking her own school record that was set during a dual meet against Millikin on Friday.
Her time beat four Division I swimmers that finished second through fifth. Hong also won the 100-yard backstroke (58.93) and 200-yard freestyle (2:05.05) in a dual meet victory against Millikin on Friday and finished ninth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.09) at the Indiana Intercollegiate.
Martin finished in the top 10 in three events over the weekend, including first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.12) during a dual meet victory at Millikin on Friday. He was also fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (50.56) and 10th in the 50-yard freestyle (21.63) at Purdue University's Indiana Intercollegiate Meet on Saturday. The meet included Purdue, Evansville, Valparaiso, Butler, University of Indianapolis, Wabash and DePauw. Martin's fourth place finish in the 100-butterfly came behind three Purdue swimmers.
Rose-Hulman returns to action with the men at Wabash on Friday night and both teams hosting Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday.
