Softball Sweeps Oberlin and Centre


Bowermaster1DANVILLE, KY. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology swept Oberlin College 5-3 and Centre College 6-2 to cap the Centre Softball Invitational on Sunday.

Sophomore Alyse Mueller (Belleville, Ill./West) recorded 15 strikeouts in the pitching circle to pick up the 5-3 win over Oberlin in game one.

Mueller's 15 strikeouts ranks second on the Rose-Hulman single-game school record list, behind 16 by Jordan Goslee in 2008.

Offensively, senior Kayla Yano (Ontario, Ore.) had two singles and two RBIs, and senior Kyla Lutz (Tennyson/Boonville) had two hits, one run and one RBI for the Engineers.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman bashed out 12 hits and four players recorded multiple-hit games in the 6-2 win over the host Colonels.

Lutz picked up the pitching win with a complete game effort in the circle.  She scattered four hits with four strikeouts for the victory.

Lutz also slapped a double and single with one run scored for the offense. Sophomore Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) pitched in with a single, double and two runs scored.

Freshman Allison Bowman (Fort Wayne/Snider) added two singles and scored once with one RBI, and senior Allison Faber (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had two singles and one RBI.  Senior Rebecca Bowermaster (Wood River, Ill./Roxana) (pictured) added one single and two RBIs.

Rose-Hulman stands 4-8 overall this season and returns to action with the HCAC opener on Saturday against Bluffton at the Fightin' Engineer Softball Field.
