ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology battled Webster University in two contests before falling 3-0 and 3-2 in softball action on Wednesday night.
In the opener, Webster scored all three runs in the third inning to earn a 3-0 win. Racehl Franck and Erin McGinnis led the Gorloks with two hits each, and Trisha Thompson tossed a complete game three-hitter.
Freshman Taylor Lockhart (Robinson, Ill./Oblong) tossed a complete-game in the circle for Rose-Hulman in the opener. Lockhart scattered nine hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Junior Jenna Martinek (Troy, Mo./Buchanan), freshman Cassidy Bevington (Delphos, Ohio/Jefferson) and freshman Jett Bender (Monticello, Minn.) each had hits for the Engineers in game one.
In the nightcap, Webster scored twice in the fourth inning and held off a late Rose-Hulman rally to earn a 3-2 win. Samantha Powers picked up the complete game win for Webster by scattering eight hits.
Sophomore Carly Heibel (Fort Wayne/Lakewood Park) led the Rose-Hulman offense with two hits, including her first home run of the season, and two runs scored. Martinek added two singles, and junior Allison Bowman (Fort Wayne/Snider) had one RBI.
Senior Alyse Mueller (Bellevile, Ill./West) recorded two strikeouts and allowed just five hits in a complete game for the Engineers.
Webster improved to 12-7, while Rose-Hulman stands 5-15 on the season. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Transylvania University for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at 1.
