CLERMONT, FLA. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology moved to 2-1 on its Florida softball trip with a 4-2 win over Capital late Tuesday night.
The Fightin' Engineers were originally scheduled to square off with Capital at 1 p.m., but rain forced the start time to 10 p.m. Rose-Hulman's game with Augustana, scheduled for Tuesday, was cancelled.
Freshman Marissa Stout (Terre Haute/South) picked up her first college victory with four innings of work. Stout scattered seven hits and allowed two runs. Sophomore Carly Heibel (Fort Wayne/Lakewood Park) pitched three scoreless innings to earn the save.
Offensively, freshman Stephanie Turner (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) slapped two singles with one run and one RBI against a team located in her hometown. Heibel also had a single and two RBI, while freshman Whitney Strain (St. Charles, Mo./Orchard Farm) scored two runs for the Engineers.
Rose-Hulman returns to action with games against Michigan-Dearborn and Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday.
