CLERMONT, FLA. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
dropped decisions of 8-1 to Wartburg and 8-0 to Adrian in the 2012
softball season openers on Monday.
Against Wartburg, freshman Jessica Ahlborn (Houghton, Mich.) scored the lone Engineer run on an RBI single by freshman Samantha Springer (Irving, Texas/Parish Episcopal). Ahlborn reached first on a walk and advanced to second after sophomore Jenna Martinek (Troy, Mich./Troy Buchnan) also walked.
In the second game, Springer and junior Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart/Central) led the offensive effort with singles. Widmoyer allowed no earned runs in a complete game in the pitching circle with two strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman returns to action against Augustana and Capital beginning at 1 on Tuesday.
