GAME 1 BOX SCORE; GAME 2 BOX SCORE

SeniorsTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Defiance College defeated Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the annual Senior Day softball doubleheader on Saturday. 

Prior to the games, Rose-Hulman celebrated Senior Day for team members Rebecca Bowermaster, Allison Faber, Kyla Lutz, Molly Richardson and Kayla Yano.

In the opener, Defiance relied on a strong pitching performance from Shauna Bowers to win 8-0. Bowers tossed a complete-game four-hitter with seven strikeouts in the Yellow Jackets victory. 

Defiance scored four times in the third inning and three times in the sixth to provide offensive support, highlighted by a home run from Mallory Faling.

Freshman Jenna Martinek (Troy, Mo./Buchanan) led the Rose-Hulman offensive effort with a double.

The Engineers fell 9-2 in the second game, after falling behind by a 4-0 margin in the first inning.  Sophomore Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central)  led the Engineers with three hits and an RBI. Richardson (Orange Park, Fla./St. John's) Yano (Ontario, Ore.)  and sophomore Alyse Mueller (Belleville, Ill/West) contributed with two hits each.  Richardson also scored a run.

Defiance improved to 18-18 overall and 10-4 in league play, while Rose-Hulman completed the season at 13-21 and 6-10 in conference games.
