TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology kept itself atop of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a hard-fought, 0-0 draw in double overtime with visiting Hanover College Saturday.
The Engineers (8-4-4, 5-0-2) stayed unbeaten in conference play in a physical match at the Intramural Field. Senior Mike Schiff (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville), nearly broke the tie midway through the second overtime with a laser to the upper right corner, but Hanover keeper Trevor Korfhagen (nine saves) stopped the threat with diving save.
Rose-Hulman junior keeper Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) stopped five Hanover shots to preserve the shutout, his eighth shutout of the season.
Senior Max Brown (Atlanta, Ga./Chamblee Charter) led the Engineers in shots with four and teammate Marshall Ishmael (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut) added three.
The Engineers now lead Hanover (9-6-2, 5-1-1) by one standings point with two conference games remaining. Rose-Hulman returns to the pitch for a road match at Earlham on Wednesday, Oct. 30, followed by the Engineers' final home match against Manchester on Nov. 2. The top four teams in the conference advance to the HCAC Tournament, set to begin Nov. 5.
