OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Drew
Belk (Jasper) recorded his first career hat trick to lead
the men's soccer team past Mount St. Joseph 5-0 on Wednesday
night.
Belk scored in the 13th minute, courtesy of a pass from junior William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) to give Rose-Hulman a lead the Engineers would not relinquish. His second goal came in the 33rd minute, off a pass from senior B.J. Thompson (Princeton).
Belk completed the hat trick with his third goal of the night in the 65th minute, on a pass from junior Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial).
Senior Zane Englert (Waterloo, Ill.) added an insurance goal in the 77th minute, with senior Joe Byrd (Danville/Covenant Christian) providing the assist. Byrd capped the scoring with the final goal of the match in the 88th minute.
Junior Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) recorded his fourth full shutout and the team's sixth shutout of the season to earn the goalkeeping victory.
Rose-Hulman outshot Mount St. Joseph 23-7 in the match, with Belk leading the offense with nine shots. Senat added four shots for the Fightin' Engineers.
Rose-Hulman improved to 8-4-2 on the season and 4-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 2-9-1 and 0-3. The Fightin' Engineers host Transylvania on Saturday at 3 p.m. in a battle of the two unbeaten teams remaining in the HCAC men's soccer standings.
