TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored two goals late in the first half to top Earlham College 2-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Senior Joe Byrd (Danville/Covenant Christian) put Rose-Hulman ahead 1-0 with a score in the 42nd minute, courtesy of an assist from junior Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial).
Less than two minutes later, junior William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) scored his ninth goal of the season to push Rose-Hulman's lead to 2-0. Junior Max Brown (Atlanta, Ga./Chamblee Charter) provided the assist.
Earlham offered a push in the second half before Evan Elko scored at 85:01 on a pass from Alex Ferreira. Sophomore Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) held off the Quakers rally with five saves.
Rose-Hulman outshot Earlham 11-9 in the match, with Senat firing four shots and Green adding three.
Rose-Hulman (11-4-3, 7-0-1 HCAC) remains tied atop the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with Transylvania University with the victory. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Manchester College in the season finale and would secure at least a share of their third regular season conference title in the past five years with a win.
