NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology earned a share of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference men's soccer championship with a 3-0 victory at
Manchester College on Saturday.
The victory helped Rose-Hulman earn its third HCAC regular season title in the last five years.
Rose-Hulman finished 8-0-1 in HCAC play and earned the No. 2 seed for this week's league tournament. The Fightin' Engineers will host Anderson University in the semifinal round on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The top remaining seed will host the HCAC championship match on Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.
Senior William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) opened the scoring in the 1st minute, on an assist from senior Adam Carlson (Brownsburg).
The lead reached 2-0 on a score by Carlson in the 53rd minute, on an assist from sophomore Andrew Bartush (Granger/Penn).
Rose-Hulman scored its final insurance goal in the 86th minute, when senior Joe Byrd (Danville/Covenant Christian) booted home a score on an assist from fellow senior B.J. Thompson (Princeton).
Sophomore Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) recorded his seventh shutout of the season with three saves in the win.
Rose-Hulman outshot Manchester 14-6 in the contest, with Senat firing five shots and Byrd three.
