BLUFFTON, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 6-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and 12-5 overall with a 3-0 victory at Bluffton University on Sunday.
The Fightin' Engineers recorded their seventh consecutive victory overall and tallied their seventh shutout this season in the performance.
Sophomore William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) gave the Engineers an early 1-0 lead with a score in the 18th minute, on a pass from sophomore Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial).
The lead reached 2-0 on the 18th goal this season by senior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) in the 32nd minute.
Junior Zane Englert (Waterloo, Ill.) added the final score of the day to cap a first half spurt in the 44th minute. Junior B.J. Thompson (Princeton) earned the assist.
The tandem of freshman Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) and freshman Jake Crouch (Fort Wayne/Bishop Luers) combined for the shutout in goal for Rose-Hulman. Junior Joe Byrd (Danville/Conveant Christian) paced the offensive effort with three shots.
Rose-Hulman outshot Bluffton 16-5 in the win. Bluffton dropped to 2-14 overall and 1-6 in HCAC play. The Engineers host Earlham College in conference play on Wednesday night.
