TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology has named Kyle Kovach (Munster/Andrean)
and Jordan Martin (Shelbyville/Triton Central) as
team captains for the upcoming 2012 season.
Kovach earned the NCAA Division III all-purpose yardage national championship in 2011 by averaging 225.1 yards per game. He earned his second straight HCAC rushing championship with 1,213 rushing yards on a school record 298 carries. His efforts included a school record 246-yard performance at Anderson University and the fifth best rushing effort in school history with 221 yards at Kalamazoo.
Kovach ranks third in school history with 3,005 rushing yards and needs 311 yards to become Rose-Hulman's all-time leading rusher. He holds the career school record with 5,192 all-purpose yards and stands third in school history in rushing touchdowns (31) and fourth in total touchdowns (38).
Martin ranked second on the Fightin' Engineers with
83 tackles in 10 starts last season, including 58 solo
efforts. He tied for team-high honors with two forced
fumbles, grabbed two interceptions and recorded five pass breakups
from his starting safety position in 2011.
Martin has recorded 144 tackles, seven interceptions and 10 pass breakups in his three-year varsity career that has included 20 consecutive starts entering the 2012 campaign.
Rose-Hulman completed its seventh consecutive season at .500 or above in 2011 and placed second in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings. The Fightin' Engineers open the 2012 season at home against Kalamazoo College on Sept. 1.
