Rose-Hulman Claims Four HCAC Players of the Week Awards

POW Graphicwk5 WebTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes combined for four Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards, in results released by the conference office on Monday.

Senior Matt Angel (Cassville, Mo.) was named Football Special Teams Player of the Week, senior Drew Belk (Jasper) earned Men's Soccer Player of the Week accolades, senior Ryan Landwehr (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) claimed Football Offensive Player of the Week honors, and sophomore Sanders Park (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) was named HCAC Men's Golf Player of the Week.

Angel finished a perfect 5-5 on extra points and hit a 25-yard field goal as part of Rose-Hulman's 38-14 football victory over Hanover.  On the season, Angel stands 17-18 on extra points and 4-6 on field goals to rank third on the team with 29 points.

Belk scored a career-high four goals to lead the men's soccer team past Bluffton University 5-0 on Sunday night at Lima Senior High School.  He scored once in the first half and added three second half goals to lift the Fightin' Engineers to a victory in their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener.  On the season, Belk leads the team with five goals and 11 points.

Landwehr finished 27-37 through the air for 266 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 91 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in the 38-14 win over Hanover.  The electrical engineering major has completed 61% of his passes for 1,173 yards and nine touchdowns, while rushing for 251 yards and six scores.  Landwehr also earned his second conseutive HCAC Offensive Player of the Week award.

Park won Medalist honors at the Wabash College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday with rounds of 68 and 74.  The score of 68 tied Rose-Hulman's single-round school record, set earlier in the week by teammate Travis Whithaus.  The Fightin' Engineers finished second overall in the event, and Park leads the team in scoring average at 73.14 strokes per round.

The football team puts its 3-0 HCAC record on the line at Bluffton University on Saturday.  Men's soccer travels to Anderson on Tuesday and hosts Defiance on Saturday.  The men's golf squad returns to the links at the Chauncey Cup Alumni Outing on Saturday at Hulman Links.
