TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Two Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes were honored as Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their efforts last week.
Senior Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio) earned Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors, and senior Josh Sonneberger (Edon, Ohio) claimed Football Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Dangel led the Engineers to a 2-2 mark at the DePauw Invitational over the weekend with her effort in the back row. The senior recorded 69 digs (5.3/set) and added three service aces as RHIT earned wins over Concordia-Chicago and Olivet. The Engineers suffered losses to host DePauw and Trine at the event. The award marked the fourth time in her career that Dangel has been HCAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Rose-Hulman stands 7-8 on the volleyball season and returns to action against Principia and Illinois College at the Homecoming Quad Match on Saturday.
Sonneberger led the Engineers’ effort in Saturday’s 27-17 loss to Centre and has been named the HCAC Player of the Week on defense. The junior totaled nine tackles, one forced fumble, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a half sack in the loss. On the season, Sonneberger leads the defensive line with 12 tackles, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss and a fumble recovery at Kalamazoo.
The Fightin' Engineers open the HCAC schedule with Saturday's 2 p.m. Homecoming game against Defiance College.
