TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Andrew Stull (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) and junior Austin Schulthies (Dubois/Northeast Dubois) were named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their efforts last weekend.
Stull was named HCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week, while Schulthies captured the conference Field Athlete of the Week award for his efforts on Saturday.
Stull tossed a complete game three-hit shutout against Bluffton University to open a three-game HCAC series at Art Nehf Field on Friday night. The mechanical engineering major recorded his first career complete game and first shutout in Rose-Hulman's 12-0 win over Bluffton.
Stull scattered just three hits in the nine-inning performance, allowing just one hit after the third inning. He struck out three and pitched around three walks to lower his earned run average to 2.16 on the season.
Schulthies won three events to help propel Rose-Hulman to victory in the Early Bird Track & Field Invitational at the William Welch Complex on Saturday. He claimed top honors in the javelin (174' 0"), long jump (21' 10 1/4") and the high jump (6' 1 1/4").
The mechanical engineering major earned his third HCAC Field Athlete of the Week award in 2014, after claiming two honors during the indoor season.
The baseball team stands 8-4 overall and 3-0 in HCAC play entering this weekend's home series against Hanover. The track and field squads return to action at Hanover College on Saturday.
