NCAA Mideast Regional Coming to Rose-Hulman

regional-blueTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will host one of the nation's most competitive NCAA Division III Baseball Regionals at Art Nehf Field beginning Wednesday.

Rose-Hulman's field of eight features the last three NCAA Division III National Champions (Illinois Wesleyan in 2010 and Marietta in 2011-12) and seven teams that have won 29 or more games this season.  The eight teams include conference champions and at-large representatives from five states (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania).

Admission will be available each day for $5.

Manchester University is the top seed for the Mideast Regional.  The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season and conference tournament champions were ranked No. 12 nationally by d3baseball.com last week.  The Spartans bring a 35-5-1 overall record into their sixth trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Two-time defending national champion Marietta College has earned the No. 2 seed.  The Pioneers have won six NCAA Division III national titles since 1981, including most recently in 2011 and 2012.  This season, Marietta has a record of 29-12 and stood No. 8 in the d3baseball.com national rankings last week.

The College of Wooster will make its 27th appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament as the automatic qualifier from the North Coast Athletic Conference.  The Fighting Scots stand 32-10 on the season and have finished in the top three at the NCAA Division III World Series three times in their history.

Illinois Wesleyan University captured the No. 4 seed for this week's event as an at-large representative from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.  The Titans have a 32-12 record and make their 11th NCAA Tournament appearance, highlighted by the 2010 national championship.

Washington & Jefferson stands as the No. 5 seed after winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference regular season and conference tournament championships.  The Presidents make their fourth NCAA Tournament in the last five years and have compiled a record of 30-11 this spring.

Thomas More College earned an at-large bid to the tournament after finishing as the runner-up in the Presidents' Athletic Conference this season.  The Saints, with a 29-14 overall record, are making their third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years and their fifth overall.

The Penn State-Behrend Lions won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title to capture the No. 7 seed for this week's event.  The Lions are making their fourth NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in the last five years and come to the Regional with a 30-10 mark.

The University of Mount Union earned the No. 8 seed for this week's tournament after an undefeated run through the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament last weekend.  The Purple Raiders are best known for a football program that has won 11 NCAA Division III national championships since 1993 and will make their first baseball NCAA Tournament appearance with a 23-16 record.

Play will begin on Wednesday and continue through Sunday at Art Nehf Field.  Matchups, starting times and complete tournament information will be available online at http://www.rose-hulman.edu/athletics/baseball/2013-ncaa-mideast-regional.aspx.
