green-pitchTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team fell 3-0 to DePauw and 7-3 to Concordia Chicago in a pair of home baseball matchups on Saturday at Art Nehf Field.

In the opener, three DePauw pitchers combined for a seven-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory over Rose-Hulman.

Jack Peck allowed four hits over seven innings of work to earn the win.  Joe Wojda picked up the save with the final three outs.  Jason Cohen led the offense with a solo home run.

Senior Matt Green (Lemont, Ill.) tossed seven strong innings for Rose-Hulman.  Green scattered seven hits with four strikeouts and just three runs allowed.

Junior Michael Bush (Worthington, Ohio/Christian) shutout the Tigers for the final two innings.

Offensively, seniors Bobby Newman (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and Donald Stopka (Grayslake, Ill./Carmel Catholic) had two hits each.  Stopka also had a double for the Engineers.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman led 1-0 before Concordia Chicago scored twice in the fourth inning and five times in the seventh to capture a 7-3 victory.

Senior Jordan Chipka (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) led the Rose-Hulman offense with three hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Junior Hank Akard (Indianapolis/Ben Davis), freshman Kody Alayon (Hammond/Bishop Noll) and sophomore Josh Hoeing (Rushville) each had a single and one RBI.

Sophomore R.J. Carroll (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) struck out four and allowed just two runs over his first six innings.  Freshman Karson Nixon (Jasper) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts to provide depth.

The Fightin' Engineer baseball program also wishes to thank a close friend of the program who donated the St. Patrick's Weekend green hats worn by the team on Saturday.

Concordia Chicago topped DePauw 7-6 in the second game of the day.  Rose-Hulman returns to action on Sunday with a home game at noon against Concordia Chicago.  DePauw will face Concordia at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Art Nehf Field.
