D'Baugh2AUBURNDALE, FLA. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology stands 3-3 on the season after a narrow 7-5 loss to Augustana College on Thursday as part of the team's Florida trip.

Augustana scored three unearned runs in the first inning, before the Vikings were held scoreless until the seventh inning by starter Ethan Post (Rockford, Mich.).  Augustana snapped a 3-3 tie with one run in the seventh and three in the eighth against the Engineer bullpen, before Rose-Hulman scored twice in the ninth.

Senior B.J. Zobrist (Eureka, Ill.) slapped three singles to lead the Rose-Hulman offense.  Junior Derek Dauenbaugh (Bloomington, Ill./University) (pictured)  added two singles and one RBI.

Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman included sophomore Bobby Newman (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) with a two-run triple; junior Jamie Weinle (Harrison, Ohio/Olney C.C.) with a triple; and sophomore Matt Turk (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail) with a double and one run scored.

Dave Hoffman led the Augustana offense with three hits, including a double, and three RBIs.  Mike Trotta pitched seven innings and scattered seven hits with three runs allowed to earn the victory.

Rose-Hulman stands 3-3 on the season, while Augustana improved to 5-1.  The Engineers square off in a doubleheader with Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon.
