Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology welcomes students from around the world as well as across the United States. It is not unusual to have more than 50 international students studying on our campus at any time. Over the past ten years, students have attended the Institute from Bangladesh, People’s Republic of China, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Ghana, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Paraguay, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is located in Terre Haute, Indiana a small city of 50,000 people. There are four universities in Terre Haute: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Indiana State University, St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and Indiana Community College. In all, there are approximately 14,000 students attending these institutions.

Terre Haute is located about 300 km south of Chicago. Travel time to Chicago is about 4 hours by highway. The closest city with air service is Indianapolis with a population of over one million people. It is about one hour driving distance from campus.

Indiana is in the temperate zone and has four distinct seasons with temperatures ranging from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius in the summer and -5 to 5 Celsius in the winter. Rainfall averages 90 cm with snowfall during the winter averaging about 65 cm.

The campus is 200 acres in physical size with many modern buildings. Housing on campus is guaranteed to first year students. After the first year, it is permitted to move off the campus into the community. If you choose to, you may continue to live on campus. There are several apartment complexes within 5 km of the campus. Public transportation is currently not provided to the campus.

Support services for international students include an international student adviser, the International Student Association and numerous cultural and social events scheduled throughout the school year on campus and within the Terre Haute community. Indiana State University also offers a number of cultural opportunities. Requirements for Admission

There are two types of admission:

  • Freshman admission is for those students who are finishing secondary school and are ready to begin university level studies.
  • Transfer admission is for those students who have graduated from secondary school and are enrolled in a college or university.

The deadline for freshman admissions is March 1, 2008.  The deadline to apply for transfer admission is in later April 18, 2008. 

A completed application for admission must include:

  • the International Student Application
  • SAT-I or ACT results
  • an official copy of the secondary school record
  • an official copy of the "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (TOEFL) report, if English is not your native language.
  • An affidavit of support indicating your ability to fully fund the cost of attendance at Rose-Hulman

All students will be expected to have fluency and strong understanding of spoken and written English. A minimum TOEFL score will be required as follows:

  • Internet-Based - 80
  • Computer-Based - 215
  • Paper-Based - 550

Rose-Hulman does not provide English language instruction. If you are in need of such instruction, Indiana State University is home to Interlink, a course in English language. Successful completion of the Interlink program can replace the requirement for the TOEFL.

Students can receive conditional admission if they plan to attend Interlink. Full admission to Rose-Hulman is possible, however, only after successful completion of the Interlink program.

Please keep in mind that there is very limited scholarship money available for international students. International students must be able to fully fund the entire cost of education at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
