Phantom Sets New Speed Record

The Solar Phantom Team set a new speed record for competition when they reached 82 miles per hour during the Sunrayce Preview Run. The record was reached when the Solar Phantom IV was traveling downhill near Winchester, Virginia. Driver Jim Meyer said, "I wouldn't want to travel any faster in the car," noting that the wind makes the car less stable at high speeds.
