Rose-Hulman just slipped out of the Top 20 this year, finishing a disappointing 21st in the nation with scores of 2234 and 2272 for a total of 4506. The Engineers came in behind #20 University of Akron (4520) but were just ahead of Ohio State (4502). While our smallbore performance wasn't up to par in the qualifier, we shot a school record in air rifle.
The NCAA-affiliated Rose-Hulman Rifle Team has been in existence for eight decades. We regularly compete against schools such as Ohio State, Morehead State, Akron, Kentucky, Xavier and Murray State.
Rose provides Anschutz match rifles and Walther air rifles, match ammo, and all other necessary equipment. A 10-point, on-campus shooting range was completed in September 1998. We also have a SCATT computer training system to check hold and shot execution. We practice as a team 9 hours a week, but individuals can practice on their own as often as they wish. Team members are also able to take advantage of the excellent physical training facilities in the state-of-the-art Student Recreation Center.
Rifle has been a NCAA sport since 1980. Prior to that, it was governed through the NRA. The rules in use are strongly based on NRA International rules and the NRA still selects the All Americans and conducts collegiate Sectional matches. Take a closer look at NCAA Rifle.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has been ranked #1 for undergraduate engineering and science colleges seven years in a row by U.S. News & World Report magazine.
