Incoming Letter Mail and Packages
The Mail Distribution Center (MDC) sorts all
incoming letter mail and packages delivered to the Rose-Hulman campus for students, faculty, and
staff in compliance
with USPS regulations and any other Institute, local, state, or federal policies
relating to mail requirements.
Incoming letter mail can be picked up
at the following location:
- MDC - Moench Hall, EL106
(near the student commons area)
Incoming packages can be picked up at
the following locations:
- MDC - Moench Hall, EL 106
(STUDENTS ONLY)
- MDC ANNEX - Moench Hall, DL130
(FACULTY AND STAFF ONLY)

Addressing
At the U.S. Postal Service, mail is sorted by
automated equipment, therefore, it is important for your mail to be addressed
correctly.
Incoming mail should be addressed by
following the standard format below.

*Note: The last two lines of any address should
always be the postal address and then the City, State and Zip Code.
Mail Forwarding
Students, faculty and staff leaving for the
summer, study abroad, co-op, withdrawals, graduating, sabbatical, and other
temporary leaves of absences can add or change their mail forwarding address
electronically through the Banner web system. It is important to keep
your mail forwarding address information current to prevent possible delays
in mail delivery. You can view your local, permanent and campus mail
addresses, however, the mail forwarding address is the only address that can
be added or updated.
Simply follow these Banner Web User
Instructions:
- go to the
RHIT web page
- Under Quick Links (at the bottom
and middle of the page), click on the down arrow and select Banner Web.
A security alert may appear, if so, select OK
- Enter your Kerberos Username and
Password, click on Login or hit the enter key on your keyboard
- Click on Personal Information
- Click on View or Update Address(es)
and Phone(s), your active addresses will appear on the screen
- Follow the instruction on the
screen
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR
MAIL FORWARDING
YOU are responsible for providing
the Mail Distribution Center with a current mail forwarding address.
Your mail will only be forwarded for the time period that you indicate in
the "From" and "Until" date fields in the Forwarding Address database on the
Banner Web Personal Information page as described in the Banner Web User
Instructions above.
The electronic system is intended to
provide you with convenient, easy access to maintaining your current mail
forwarding address whether on or off campus.
Packages can not be forwarded without
payment in advance. Please contact
Rick Alumbaugh x 8490 to
make forwarding arrangement for packages.

Personal Mail -
As a convenience to students, faculty and staff,
postage stamps may be purchased for personal use at the following locations:
- MCC - at the Facilities building
(stamps of any denomination and all metered mail
- Bookstore - HMU (first class
booklet of 10 or 20 each and Flat Rate Priority Mail envelopes)
- Moench Hall - next to DHL
self-service package counter (first class stamps may be
purchased from a vending machine in booklets of 12 or 20 each.
All personal First Class mail must be
stamped and placed into the USPS mailboxes located in Moench Hall
(student commons area) or in the HMU (lower level).
There are two (2) DHL Self Service
Package counters available for use to processing packages. They
are located in Moench Hall (across from the MDC customer counter) or in
the HMU (lower level near the ATM machine). You can access the DHL
website from computers located at each counter and take advantage of the
Institute's discounted rates for both business and personal packages.
However, payment must be made by a personal credit/debit card or
Institute purchasing card. Drop-off deadline is 3:00 p.m. daily.
Please bring completed waybill and
package to one of three (3) locations:
- MDC Annex - DL130
- Bookstore - HMU
- MCC - Facilities building
Institute Business Mail and Packages

The Mail & Copy Center (MCC)
processes all outgoing Institute business letter mail and packages.
The MCC is located at the Facilities building and offers a complete
line of mail preparation services. The US Postal Services offers postal
rate reductions for various classes of mail that require automated mail
processing. Departments are required to identify their desktop mail by a
barcode for tracking purposes (supplied to each department). All
outgoing Institute business letter mail and packages must be dropped off
by 3:00 p.m. at any of the following three (3) locations:
- Moench Hall - MDC Annex, DL130
- Bookstore - HMU
- MCC - Facilities building
Departments with bulk mailings and
large mailpiece quantitites (generally 200 mailpieces) may request a
pick-up services and can discuss possible rate discounts available for
their mailings.
Mail not received by the 3:00 p.m.
drop-off deadline will be processed the next business day.

Assurance Program
Quality Controls are
an essential part of the services provided by the Mail Processing Center.
Standard Mail Procedures
have been established to insure compliance with the Mail Processing Center
Quality Control Assurance Program.
Campus mailing patrons should read and follow these guidelines when using the
mail preparation services in the Mail Processing Center.

Special Services
Click on the
type of service you wish, for rates and additional information.
Certified
- Provides a mailing receipt. A record is kept at the recipient’s post
office. A return receipt can also be purchased for an additional fee. This
service is available only with First-Class Mail and Priority Mail.
Express
- Express Mail is the fastest service, with next day delivery by 12 noon to
most destinations. Express Mail is delivered 365 days a year—with no extra
charge for Saturday, Sunday, or holiday delivery. All packages must use an
Express Mail label. Items must weigh 70 pounds or less and measure 108
inches or less in combined length and girth.
Delivery Confirmation
- Verify delivery with Delivery Confirmation. Our low cost Delivery
Confirmation service gives you the date, ZIP Code and the time your article
was delivered. If delivery was attempted you will get the date and time of
attempted delivery. You can easily access this information on our
Track & Confirm
Web site. Delivery Confirmation service is available for domestic Priority
Mail and for parcels mailed as First-Class Mail, Package Services or
Standard Mail (electronic rate only)
Insured
– Provides coverage against loss or damage. Do not insure for more than the
value. The amount of insurance coverage for loss will be the actual value,
less depreciation.
Priority
- Priority Mail offers 2-3 day service to most domestic destinations. Items
must weigh 70 pounds or less and measure 108 inches or less in combined
length and girth.
Registered
- Provides maximum protection and security for valuables. Available only for
items paid at Priority Mail and First-Class Mail rates.
Return Receipt
- Provides a mailer with evidence of delivery. Also supplies the recipient’s
actual delivery address if it is different from the address used by the
sender. A return receipt may be requested before or after delivery.
Available only for Express Mail, certified mail, insured mail for more than
$50, or registered mail. Fee in addition to postage: Showing to whom
delivered, signature, date, and addressee’s address (if different).
Student Fax Services
Fax services are available to students at the
RHIT Bookstore during regular business hours. You may fax documents by
completing a Fax Message Envelope. Bookstore personnel will fax the documents for you and return the Fax Message
Envelope to your campus mailbox. The Fax Message Envelope will indicate that
your message was sent.
