Password Change Procedures

Due to the AY2007-2008 Password Policy, please ensure that your passwords meet complexity requirements! If you have questions or problems please contact Helpdesk at x8989.

To ensure that you will be able to print to \\print , your Local Machine User account password must match your Kerberos password!

Local Machine: User Account Password

  • Log in using your username and password. If your machine has been reimaged by Helpdesk this password is "change".
  • Once Windows loads, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to open the "Windows Security" window.
  • In that window, click "Change Password".
  • In the "Old Password" field, enter your current password. If your machine has been reimaged by Helpdesk this password is "change".
  • In the "New Password" field, enter your new personal password.
  • Repeat your personal password in the next field, then click "OK".
  • Click "OK" at the "Your password has been changed" dialog box.

Local Machine: Localmgr Account Password

  • Click on "Change Password" again.
  • In the "User name" field, replace your username with "localmgr".
  • In the "Old Password" field, enter your current password. If your machine has been reimaged by Helpdesk this password is "change".
  • In the "New Password" field, enter your new personal password.
  • Repeat your personal password in the next field, then click "OK".
  • Click "OK" at the "Your password has been changed" dialog box.

Kerberos Password

Your new network password must be between 8 and 20 characters long and include 1 character from 3 of the 4 character groups: Capital Letters, Lowercase Letters, Symbols (e.g. @,#,$), and Numbers.

  • Click on "Change Password" again.
  • In the "User name" field, replace "localmgr" with your username.
  • In the "Log on to" field, click the arrow and select "ROSE-HULMAN", instead of "username-1 (this computer)".
  • In the "New Password" field enter your new Kerberos password.
  • Repeat your new Kerberos password in the next field, then click "OK".
  • Click "OK" at the "Your password has been changed" dialog box.
  • Open your preferred internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari) and navigate to "http://webmail.rose-hulman.edu/". If you are able to login to webmail with your new Kerberos password, then the password change has been successful.

Kerberos Password - Changing Via a Remote Desktop Connection

    Click Start, then click Run.
  • Type mstsc in the box.
  • Make sure the box that appears contains one of the following:
  • ts1.rose-hulman.edu
    ts2.rose-hulman.edu
    ts3.rose-hulman.edu

  • Click on Connect. The following box will appear
  • In the "Log on to" field, choose the Rose-Hulman domain.
  • Type in your username in the appropriate field; then type in your old (previous) password.
  • A box will appear prompting you to change your password to one which is between 8 and 20 characters long, includes 1 character from 3 of the 4 character groups, and is does not contain a portion of your name, user name or previous password.
  • A notification box will appear to alert you whether or not the password change was successful.
