Projector Instructions


To toggle between the internal and external monitors:

  • The Compaq and HP laptops use Fn+F4
  • The Dell M70 laptops use Fn+F8
  • Press Fn+F4 (or Fn+F8) to active the external monitor (Internal and External on).
  • Press Fn+F4 (or Fn+F8) again to deactivate the internal monitor (External only).
  • Press Fn+F4 (or Fn+F8) again to return to the original state (Internal only).

To use a classroom projector:

  1. Connect the projector to the VGA port on the back of your laptop.
  2. Open the Display Properties dialog by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties.
  3. Select the Settings tab.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Select the Displays tab.
  6. Click the Power button in the top left corner of the Monitor section.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Yes.
  9. The image should now appear on the projector, but it will be in the wrong resolution.
  10. Move the Screen Resolution slider so that your screen resolution is 1024x768, the maximum supported resolution of the projectors.
  11. Click OK.
  12. The image should now be displayed on the projector and at the correct resolution.

To disconnect from a classroom projector:

  1. Disconnect the projector from the VGA port on the back of your laptop.
  2. Open the Display Properties dialog by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties.
  3. Select the Settings tab.
  4. Move the Screen Resolution slider so that your screen resolution what you desire.
  5. Click OK.
  6. The display on your laptop should now be back at the correct resolution.

To turn on dual monitor mode:

  1. Open the Display Properties dialog by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties.
  2. Select the Settings tab.
  3. Click the 2 (the second monitor).
  4. Check Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor.
  5. Move the Screen Resolution slider so that your screen resolution is 1024x768 (on an appropriate resolution for your external device).
  6. Click OK.
  7. A blank desktop should appear on the external device.

To turn off dual monitor mode:

  1. Open the Display Properties dialog by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties.
  2. Select the Settings tab.
  3. Click the 2 (the second monitor).
  4. Uncheck Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor.
  5. Click OK.
