Rose-Hulman Jewish Culture Club
Constitution:
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Jewish Culture Club.
Article II: Object
The object of the Jewish Culture Club is to educate the Rose community on cultural Jewish practices; to provide students with an opportunity to experience diversity, promoting peace and acceptance; and to provide students with an opportunity to share their culture with others
Article III: Membership
Section 1. Any member of the Rose-Hulman Student Body shall be eligible for active membership in the Jewish Culture Club.
Section 2. At least 50% attendance at the school year’s regular meetings is required to be considered an active member.
Article IV: Officers
Section 1. The officers of the Jewish Culture Club shall be a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Section 2. The officers shall be elected from the active membership on the last meeting of the second quarter and shall serve the third quarter of that school year and first and second quarters of the following school year.
Section 3. The duties of the president shall be:
Preside over all meetings.
Serve as facilitator for the planning of activities and events, in accordance with the Purpose of the Jewish Culture Club.
Act as the official representative of the Jewish Culture Club to all outside bodies.
Authorize expenditures with the Treasurer.
Be elected into office as stated in Article VIII.
Be replaced by the Vice-President if two-thirds (b) of all active members of the Jewish Culture Club call for the President's impeachment or if the President becomes unable to perform the duties associated with that office.
Section 4. The duties of the vice-president shall be:
Undertake any duties the President is not able to fulfill in the President's role as facilitator or representative.
In absence of the President, serve as acting President.
Serve as facilitator for the planning of activities and events, along with the President, in accordance with the Purpose of the Jewish Culture Club.
Be elected into office as stated in Article VIII.
Be replaced by a Presidential appointee if two-thirds (b) of all active members of the Jewish Culture Club call for the Vice-President's
impeachment or if the Vice-President becomes unable to perform the duties associated with that office.
Section 5. The duties of the secretary shall be:
In the absence President or Vice-President, serve as acting President.
Maintain all official records of the Jewish Culture Club.
Keep the members informed about all events and meetings sponsored by the Jewish Culture Club.
Advertise publicly those events sponsored by the Jewish Culture Club which are open to the community.
Confirm the Treasurer's accounts at least once per year.
Be elected into office as stated in Article VIII.
Be replaced by a Presidential appointee if two-thirds (b) of all active members of the Jewish Culture Club call for the Secretary's impeachment or if the Secretary becomes unable to perform the duties associated with that office.
Section 6. The duties of the treasurer shall be:
Be responsible for the stewardship of all money and debts associated with the Jewish Culture Club, and inform the members about the financial status of the Jewish Culture Club when called to do so.
Maintain complete and accurate records of all monetary flows, realizing that these records may be examined on demand by any officer or member.
To compile and present the annual budget request to SGA.
Authorize expenditures along with the President.
Be elected into office as stated in Article VIII.
Be replaced by a Presidential appointee if two-thirds (b) of all active members of the Jewish Culture Club call for the Treasurer's impeachment or if the Treasurer becomes unable to perform the duties associated with that office.
Article V: Meetings
Section 1. Planning meetings shall be held in the first week of each month, the day to be decided by the officers. Regular meetings shall be held for holidays or as the officers see fit.
Section 2. The president may call any special meetings if necessary.
Section 3. A quorum shall consist of at least one-half of the active membership.
Article VI: Advisor
The Jewish Culture Club desires to maintain relations with the faculty and staff of RHIT. Therefore, at the request of the Jewish Culture Club, a member of the RHIT faculty or staff shall serve as club's advisor for a term of no less than one academic year.
The advisor shall serve as representative to the RHIT faculty and staff and advise the Jewish Culture Club in all aspects of its operation. It is beneficial, but not required, that the advisor be educated in Jewish Culture. The advisor should, if possible, attend all meetings and events of the Jewish Culture Club.
Article VI: Amendments
Section 1. Any active member during the course of the meeting may make a motion to make an amendment to the constitution.
Section 2. Amendments shall require a two-thirds (b) majority vote of all active Jewish Culture Club members to take effect.
Article VII: Adoption and Repeal
Section 1. This Constitution and Bylaws shall be considered adopted when and if two-thirds (b) of the entire active membership of the Jewish Culture Club vote to adopt said Constitution at a meeting called for such a purpose.
Section 2. Upon the adoption of this Constitution and Bylaws of the Jewish Culture Club, all previous Constitutions and Bylaws, including any and all amendments thereon, thereto or contained therein, shall be considered repealed and no longer in effect.
Article VIII: Constitutional Bylaws
Section 1. Election Procedures
Members will be notified of elections 2 weeks in advance, by the Secretary.
Nominations will be taken near the end of the Winter Term, either before the elections, or during the election meeting.
The last meeting in the Winter Academic Quarter shall be held for the
purpose of holding elections.
Any active member may nominate anyone at the elections meeting (including self) who is present and eligible for office.
Nominees will be given a maximum of five (5) minutes to present a speech
to the general membership explaining their reasons behind running for office,
qualifications, goals, and all other applicable information.
After all speeches are completed, a quorum of the active general
membership will vote by raising hands.
The nominees will not be present when their position is being voted on.
The nominees receiving the greatest number of votes will win the office.
In the case of a tie, the quorum of the membership will vote again, taking
only those candidates involved in the tie into consideration.
The elections will be held in descending order. The offices will be voted on
and decided in the following order: the President, the Vice-President, the
Treasurer, and the Secretary.
Section 2. A quorum shall consist of at least half of active members of Jewish Culture club.
Section 3. All votes, unless specified otherwise, shall be passed by a majority of a quorum of the active general membership.
