Greetings,
I hope that this coming year will be a productive and happy one for you.
We are experimenting with the fall section meeting to help determine the best format in the future. The Fall 2006 meeting will be a workshop at Valparaiso University October 14. There will be no contributed talks, but we hope to retain other important elements of our section meetings. Thus, there will be time for mathematics as well as opportunities to socialize.
I am excited about the fall workshop leader, Francis Su from Harvey Mudd College . He is a talented individual as well as a good speaker. His workshop on Geometric Combinatorics should provide something for everyone from undergraduate students to college instructors and researchers. Further details can be found at here.
Let me encourage you to be part of the Spring 2007 meeting at the University of Indianapolis on March 23-24. In addition to contributed talks, we are fortunate to have Art Benjamin as featured speaker through the Pólya Lecturer program. Along with co-editing Math Horizons magazine, Art Benjamin is known for his mathemagic program, and we are counting on excellent presentations Friday night and Saturday afternoon. This meeting will include the usual features of our Spring meetings such as the "Friendly Competition" for students on Friday afternoon.
You can make our section even stronger by
- Nominating someone for national MAA committees. The Indiana section has traditionally had a strong presence nationally and we would like this to continue.
- Nominating someone for the section awards for Distinguished Teaching or Distinguished Service. There are many deserving candidates in Indiana that need to be recognized. These nominations can be sent to either the chair of the respective committee or the section Secretary,dhousman@goshen.edu
- Providing comments about our experimental format this fall.
I look forward to seeing you in Valparaiso and Indianapolis .
