CSSE 490: Group presentation of a logic system.

The purpose of this assignment is to learn about a logical system other than Propositional or First-Order Logic.

Work on this assignment in pairs.
Identify a logical system. Do this by Friday, October 3rd. Please discuss with me or email me your proposed area. If more than one group proposes the same area then the first group to propose it will get first dibs. As soon as I approve a logical system, I will post them here so that you know what has been proposed already.
Here is a list of potential topics. You should select one that grabs your attention, whether it is on this list or not.
- Second Order Logic
- Temporal Logic
- Modal Logic
- Logics with more than two truth values
- Logics that attempt to capture quantifiers other than "forall" and "exits"
- Fuzzy Logic
- Logics that attempt to capture situations.
- Description Logic
- Logical reasoning with diagrams
You have about two and a half weeks to research the logical system.
You will be giving a tutorial to the class. You have the entire class session to do so. In it you will introduce, among others, the reason why this logic is interesting, the syntax and semantics of the logical system, the rules of inference and a good proof system. You will also provide or address soundness and completeness proofs, if they exist. Finally, you will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the logical system you introduced and assign and grade homework problems designed to learn the logical system.
