For this homework, I want you to think about how individual web-sites use the web. Again, feel free to work in small groups. This homework will be graded and is due Friday, December 10th, at noon.
The web is a relatively new tool. Some web-sites do a better job using it than others. There are two ways in which I want you to think about this issue.
Some people may use a hammer to kill a fly and some people may use a pocket knife to cut a tree, both are not good usages of the respective tools. So there are two issues here: one of them is design, basically a user-interface issue. The other one is the larger issue of using the web for things that make sense, in terms of services provided, usage, ...
In order to develop criteria for good usage of the web, come up with examples for good, bad, and ugly web-sites. Provide the URL as well as a detailed discussion of what you find laudable or objectionable. Note: It is quite conceivable that an individual web-site falls into several of the categories. When it comes to the exercise, I want you to think about the tools that the web-sites use to do certain things, as well as whether it seems appropriate for the kind of service provided. Feel free to be subtle.
