Habitat for CS Website Project - Phase II

For phase II, let's work in groups. The group assignments can be found below. Group leaders are underlined. Group leaders are responsible for organizing group meetings whether online or offline. Confidential group evaluations of each member by each member are due at the due date of the project. There are three stages to this project - see below. Since we are running short on homework credits, this assignment counts towards your presentation grade. In terms of tools and techniques, you may use anything you like. Feel free to grab stuff from the web that you find useful. Look for scripts. Use Photoshop or your favorite graphical editor to come up with spiffy graphics.

To reiterate what I said in class today, I want you to come up with c r e a t i v e and innovative ways of presenting and accessing information. Furthermore, I want the design of the pages and the information presented on those pages reflect the culture here at Rose. Remember, the web is a tool, we want to develop new ways of using this tool to present and access information.

Timeline:
Friday, January 7th, in class.
Present the proposed design of your pages. Please feel free to use hand-drawn overheads to present your proposed designs. We want to give you feedback during that class.
Friday, January 14th, in class.
Progress report. Give a brief report on the progress you made. This would be a good time to consult the wisdom of the class for last minute design choices.
Monday, January 24th, in class.
The final versions of your pages are due. Everything has to be implemented. Present it in class.

Groupmembers Pages Notes
Andy Engle, Jason Borneman, AJ Flinn Home page, general layout of the CS web-site, address navigation of the entire site, do layout for courses page and hook it up to existing information. Think about innovative ways of presenting course information and anything related to it. Talk to me about the layout of the entire CS web-site as soon as you have something, because you need to have something presentable by Jan 7th, so that other groups can use it. The courses page does not necessarily have to follow that same design.
Bill Young, Nino Davi, Todd Blocksum, Nathan Beittenmiller Faculty, staff, student, and alumni pages Your challange is to come up with a unique way to reference the faculty, student, and alumni pages. I expect you to actually hook up all CS student pages. Please get in touch with me about the best way to contact almuni, because it would be nice to hook up as many as possible. You can work independently of the general layout of the CS-site.
Aaron Eppert, Andy Engle, Michael Van Vertloo, Craig Pohlman Coke Machine You need to think about confidentiality of the accounts as well as how to handle the accounting with Rose's business office which deals with proceeds from vending machine sales. Talk to me soon about those issues.
Jay Askren, Dave Ciarocchi, Tyler Smith, Matthew Sheehe Departmental Info Your challenge is to uniformly present a lot of information. I want you to follow the design to be proposed by the "homepage" group. Until they present it, worry about the structure of your web-pages, what information goes where, and who the authors are, as we may have to contact them and ask them to change the design to what we come up with.
Duanne Musser, Greg Smelker, Chad Wiseman, Chris Maurer, Jason Walker, Ben Walter Kickn' it in Terre Haute Alright, what we have so far is a lot of information, may be even too much. Your challange is to come up with an irreverent, yet tasteful way of presenting may be just a selection of it. Originally, we thought that you should give two guides, one heavy on the sarcastic side and one that actually contains some useful information. May be you can find a way to combine them. Think about it. I'd like to talk to you asap about the general plan of attack.
Scott Polak, Bob Settle Departmental Tour Ok, you have a tall order ahead of you. I mentioned in class that it would be nice to have a video game like tour of the department that can also be used to access most of the information on the server. This may be too much of a project. So may be you can simulate that by taking more pictures, but following the idea that Scott and Bob used on their tour. In addition to clickable arrows, permit people to use keys to control movement, just like in a video game. May be have automatic movement, with keys for speeding up and slowing down or stopping. If one stops in front of an office, enbable a knock or something similar, which would transfer control to that person's web-site. In the same spirit, create access to the student pages, as well as the course pages. For now, just link up to dead links, we'll plug in the actual links later on. This should be a fun project. Get going on it! If you need more people, let me know.
