Trivet
I made this trivet in a course entitled "Get it Together"
which was taught by Dale Morse at the John C. Campell School. The
objective of the course was to practice forge welding, the making of
tenons, riveting, as well as the making collars. Dale Morse is an
accomplished blacksmith who owns and operates the Clay Hill Forge in
Charlottesville, VA. He received some of his training in Germany and
some of his work is featured in the book Lives Shaped by
Steelby Nancy Zastrow. He gave us a choice of an architectural
piece or a trivet. I chose the trivet. Dale designed it so that it has
8 welds and 6 tenons, three of them made off a lap weld. You may
notice the glass beads in the legs. My wife took a glass bead making
course and we decided to combine our efforts, so she made me a couple
of beads. My wife and I had a wonderful time at the Folk School and
highly recommend it.
