About Electronics Workbench...

Electronics Workbench (EWB) is a circuit simulator which uses the electronics laboratory environment as its primary metaphor; it allows you to drag-and-drop equipment such as a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, and logic analyzer directly into your simulation diagram and connect them to your circuit.

EWB is an interactive circuit simulator.  You can modify your circuit while the simulation is in progress, even to the point of flipping switches in the circuit and adjusting instrument settings.

EWB is a product of Interactive Image Technologies.

Useful Tips

  • Negative voltage source: The constant-valued voltage source (battery symbol) can take on zero or positive values only.  To make a negative voltage, delete the existing battery and replace it with another battery, but this time with opposite polarity.

  • Keyboard-controlled simulations:  Use Ctrl-G to start the simulation, Ctrl-T to stop the simulation.

  • Associating the .CA4 file extension with EWB (Windows 95): If your EWB application does not launch itself when you double-click on an EWB circuit file (.CA4 file extension), do the following:

    1. Start "Windows Explorer."
    2. Select "View -> Options."
    3. Select the "File Types" tab.
    4. Click the "New Type" button.
    5. Enter Electronics Workbench as the type description.
    6. Enter CA4 as the extension.
    7. Click the "New" button.
    8. Enter open as the action.
    9. Enter the full path of the executable (e.g., C:\wewb41\wewb.exe).
    10. Click "OK," "Close," and "Close."
