This four-credit course will explore the technical side of electronic music synthesis (waveform synthesis techniques, effects processing, computer control (MIDI), and sampling) as well as its history (significant instruments and the engineers and musicians who created them). The course does not include a scheduled lab time, but will still give you plenty of opportunity for hands-on exploration using a variety of software packages (including Matlab), and a multi-week project will give you a chance to explore a selected topic in more detail. 4R-0L-4C, Prerequisite: EC280 or EC380
