Rose-Hulman provides a return on investment (ROI) ranking among the best among U.S. colleges and universities and tops among Indiana institutions, according to salary survey collected by the national PayScale Inc. data collection company.

The 20-year net ROI of $769,000 put Rose-Hulman 18th out of 962 colleges on PayScale's 2016 College Return on Investment Report. That return is higher than the national average net return of $756,000 for engineers after 20 years working.

Meanwhile, Business Insider highlights Rose-Hulman as one of the nation's top 15 best-value colleges, based on having the highest-paying majors.

"The college decision-making process is important for every student and family, and the return on investment from higher education is just one of several factors that should enter into the equation," says Jim Goecker, vice president for enrollment management and strategic communications. "Rose-Hulman has a tradition of providing the well-rounded education and professional skills that lead to rewarding careers."

PayScale's net ROI statistics reveal the difference between 20-year median pay for a graduate with a bachelor's degree and the 24-year median pay for a high school graduate, minus the total four-year cost of attending college. The sample size for the ranking was 1.4 million college-educated workers who completed PayScale's Employee Survey between February 2013 and February 2016. The average sample size for an included school was 392 alumni profiles.

Rose-Hulman has also earned recognition by several other national publications and studies, including:

  • Ranking No. 1 among undergraduate engineering colleges for 17 consecutive years, based on a national survey of deans and senior faculty conducted by U.S. News & World Report for its 2016 college guidebook. The ranking is among colleges that offer the bachelor's or master's as its top degree in engineering.
  • Listing among the country's highest value-added higher education institutions, according to a study by the Brookings Institution assessing how well colleges affect student post-graduation economic success.
  • Ranking No. 27 for Colleges That Pay You Back, No. 3 for Best Schools for Internships, and No. 5 for Best Career Placement in The Princeton Review's 2016 book Colleges That Pay You Back: The 200 Schools That Give You the Best Bang for Your Tuition Buck.
