Universal Appeal: Mummenschanz has delighted audiences around the world with its one-of-a-kind visual storytelling for over 40 years.

For over 40 years, the whimsical humor and fantastical characters of Mummenschanz have been delighting audiences around the globe. Now, the beloved Parisian troupe is bringing its unique blend of visual storytelling to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's performing arts series at Hatfield Hall on Monday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m.

Mummenschanz meshes art, movement, and clever scenarios to create a one-of-a-kind performance that the New York Times calls "witty madness" and "dazzling and delightful." Revered the world over for its timeless appeal, creativity, and engaging visuals, the family-friendly show leaves audiences of all ages spellbound.

In an age where electronics, social media and gadgetry reign, Mummenschanz provides a breath of fresh air. Using an assortment of common and industrial materials in unusual ways, the actors distil stories into universally appealing whimsical masterpieces of elegant simplicity.

Founded in 1972, by Bernie Schürch, Andres Bossard, and Floriana Frasseto, Mummenchanz is the granddaddy of its genre, paving the way for the likes of Cirque du Soleil and Blue Man Group. The world-renowned act has entertained a diverse array of audiences in its 40-plus years and been seen in stages from Paris to Broadway.

Mummenschanz, which means "masquerade," has toured five continents and 60 host countries. The current U.S. tour has included stops in Denver, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and an extended run in New York City.

"Watching Mummenschanz is like watching art come to life before your eyes. No other group combines theater, dance, and comedy in such witty and playful stories," said Dan Tryon, Rose-Hulman's director of performing arts. "It's no wonder they had such a successful run on Broadway."
