I hope you noticed that I did that very accurately, before. I will put in an average of 2.5 hours per day/weekend, which is the minimum of time I actually spend, including class, class assignments, working with our Botball teams, team communications, several team meetings for Beyond Botball, individual work/thought on Beyond Botball, and possibly other things which I can't think of anymore, right now. I hope that is acceptable for you. Thanks." "" "BAB1EC79D532415493D6655169860EAD" "Blackburn, W. Ryan" "blackbwr" "4/23/2006 3:31:41 PM" "2.5 hours" "Class items and worked a little on the bot." "It takes some time to learn how to build a bot, it also helps when there are more than one person. This is a good part of XP." "- Sometimes it is hard to put the legos individually on the main piece, so I broke what I was building down into components. - I'll get feedback on friday when we try to put the stuff together. - We did some extreme programming/individual work. - Breaking stuff down into components is a good way to solve problems, it's interesting because it applies to just about any problem. - The method of breaking the problem down is something that I'll probably use all the time." I also spent time in the evening writing responses to this week's surveys, which had just been posted." "My first reaction when we were informed that we would be using the XP paradigm to do most of our work for Beyond Botball was that it was going to take some getting used to. Today I certainly found this to be the case. At first it seemed like we weren't getting a whole lot done. Our team split into three groups of two and there was a lot of interaction between the groups since we didn't really have clear goals. I think a lot of the problems today stemmed from not having direction within the pairs (or teams as a whole). I believe that this will change as the competition progresses and we discover more specific tasks that need to be done. Fow now though, it seems like XP is still a little awkward, but it looks to have a lot of potential." "We worked more on the Extreme Programming approach, and today we had enough time to switch partners. Although it doesn't seem quite as fast as splitting up all the duties individually, the pair approach keeps down issues with the code / structure of what you're working with, and it would be harder to actually split the duties much more, so it seems to work for the tasks we're doing now." After class I stayed in the lab so that I could continue building one of our robots. Later on Monday, I received an email from Dr. Mutchler regarding the surveys. I then completed the surveys for April 17th, 18th, and 19th." "I really enjoyed working on our beyond botball robot on Thursday. I think our team is working really well. We have been able to break into groups to achieve many small tasks. We have decided to work on two small robots that will be able to work together to achieve our goals. We haven’t started on the software yet. I think it is too early to begin writing the software for the robot. We will probably not start with the software until we have completed building more of the of the robot body. During class on Thursday we decided to meet together on Friday to try further our beyond botball robot." We're going to have to start being more focused on getting results. One of the problems we are having is that we talking about stuff a lot and dont get a lot of stuff done. We've had a lot of whole group time as well. Some of this is important at the early stages because we need to decide on strategys, but it takes a lot of time and doesnt produce much." The robot is going rather slow, but that is because we are still largely in the planning stage." Nothing too terribly exciting. Got word of our paper that is rapidly approaching. Little excitment with that. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to focus on, but I am really interested in is how they have created robots that can stand upright and how they stay upright with the gyros. Think I might focus in on that. Toyota and the US Military has done a bunch of stuff dealing witht that. The time spent out of class was to figure out what pieces we need and how to put it all together. I got designated "box" developer that will hold all the toxic balls as well as how the grappler arm may attach to it." "We decided on our design, and began building the large bot that would carry the small bot as well as the blockade used against the other bots. I paired off with another group member, and we took turns working on the design while the spectator watched and made suggestions/fetched additional materials. Afterwards we spent additional time finializing our design, then I met with a member of the team who was working on the programming to discuss what progress he made made with regards to the project, and shared some of the work I'd been working on."
