I hope you noticed that I did that very accurately, before. I will put in an average of 2.5 hours per day/weekend, which is the minimum of time I actually spend, including class, class assignments, working with our Botball teams, team communications, several team meetings for Beyond Botball, individual work/thought on Beyond Botball, and possibly other things which I can't think of anymore, right now. I hope that is acceptable for you. Thanks." "" "D585D709DA444018B9B69311E71E2CF3" "Blackburn, W. Ryan" "blackbwr" "4/30/2006 10:07:49 PM" "2 hours" "Worked in class and afterwards on the robot." "The main problem for today was that two of our team members did not show up for class. Unfortunately they have been faily non existant as of late and am at kind of a loss for how to deal with it. Because there were so few of us there we decided to abandon XP pair work for the day and just split up to accomplish a task by ourselves. This seemed to work alright. It also turned out that the camera modules that Dr. Mutchler ordered were missing the controller board. After class I took the last controller board that our class already had and repaired it so we could begin using our camera immediately." However, we did figure out that the weight was too much with the ball basket on top of it, so I started trying to devise a way to make that work. Michaels, Inc. to pick up some parts for our robot. I also completed the surveys for April 25th and 26th. In class we continued to work on building our robot." "Thursday was a pretty successful day. Before School, I stopped by my office in town to pick up some parts that we are going to try to use on our robot. We were originally going to use a mouse ball on our robot. Once we got to class and we tried out the ball, we decided that it weight too much and would try something else. We were on successful with getting one of our robots over the PVC pipe on Thursday. There are still some other parts that will be added to our robot. I’m hoping that when these parts are added that it won’t cause the robot to stall on the PVC pipe. The main problem we are having with our second robot is that it is not pulling itself over the PVC pipe yet. We have a couple of ideas we are going to try out on Monday." They seem to be working and are pretty compact. The only problem that I see is that they might be to centered and wont leave enough space for other things. We're probably going to have to build something for the other stuff to sit on. I think we'll be able to use a swivle wheel for this." I ran into some trouble with stability and keeping the balls inside the box as well as the scooper arm not being the correct size to the morphing box. So, I added in more supports and made sure that there was no chance that the box was going to mold or even lose its precious cargo. I also made sure that if the box was properly tilted, that the balls would indeed fall out of the box and into the goal. When class was in session, we basically started to put pieces together. The hydraulics that was put together was probably the most interesting item that was present to piece together. It worked on a basic push pump and level system. It would have worked perfectly with the box that I had made but we ran into two problems. First, the boxes support beams ran against the holding beams for the lift. Second, the lift wasn't strong enough to push the box up. It was too heavy. The first problem was easily fixible with the correct pieces lying around. I rigged a few little latches to hold the box into place. We also decided to either add in another hydaulic pump or put in a mechanical engine to make the lift work. Finally, the tread team started expanding the base of the robot to account for the huge devices we were going to put onto the machine. On a final note, and bit of a sidenote brag, we noticed some of the other teams panicking when they realized that they too had miscalulated the size of the balls that they were supposed to pick up and scrambled back to the drawing boards. Good thing we found it earlier than they did." "F51247C8DD2C4D3EA5F38ED2C6A41200" "Thayer, Jordan" "thayerjt" "5/1/2006 1:09:00 PM" "1 hour" "I attended class." We ended up scraping the idea of the life arms altogether because we couldn't get it to fit within the size constraints. We decided that a scissors lift would much lighter and fit into the starting box, so we began construction on that. Also, there are no motors in the class, so we will need to find some other source to use in our robots. This is slightly frustrating, because our programming team cannot test the programs they are writing without a test motor."
