"- I encountered no problems. - One of our motors malfunctioned and we had to forfeit because our bot could only go around in circles with one working motor. - We did extreme programming when working on the bot, and at the event each person got orders individually from one of the central administrative people. - The kids had much more effective robots than us. This is interesting because we helped them build their robots, but ours didn't turn out that good. - There were no take-away lessons." We also realize that with such little time left, it will be impossible to accomplish our original strategy, but we have simplified it to a plan we think is reasonable to accomplish in the time remaining. Unfortunately I will miss the first half of next week due to being out of town and I forsee that being a slight problem considering I seem to be the one who both knows the most about our robot and is most willing to work on it." I also went to Woodrow Wilson to help with the students." "The students at Woodrow Wilson were able to move along quite well during their botball meeting. One of the things that have been becoming more and more apparent lately is that some of the student will only listen to Dr. Mutchler and not to the Rose-Hulman student. For example, on Friday I made a suggestion to one of the students that would help solve their problem but they would not even listen. Less than 30 seconds after I tried to help, Dr. Mutchler came over and suggested the exact same thing and they seemed happy to have his suggestion. I’m not really sure why this is happening but I’m sure there is a way to avoid this in the future. We should try and find a way to have the Rose student have more of an influence with the school team." I also did some individual work on some of the design issues we were having as well as yet more research for the paper." "We now have a claw. Unfortunately in its present incarnation it obstructs the camera. Since the bot's controller has such a massive footprint it's going to be extremely difficult to find an alternate place to mount the arm. Research for the paper progresses slowly. Useful information on assembly line robots is not as plentiful as I would like although I've learned a significant amount about arc welding." I also came up with the idea to add guard rails so that the bridge would remain perpendicular to the body of the robot." "Elmers doesn't work well on legos. No air gets into the bond, so the glue can't cure." "I redesigned the system to extend the walls on our botball project because the gear design didn't work. It will now be power by elastic tightening in a spool to for the wall to extend. We have had to switch to designating people to specific tasks instead of having a group of two check each other's work due to a lack of time to finish the project. Also, I checked some information about the MIT project to create self-replicating robots, which seemed directly connected to my group's topic. Additionally, one of the botballs teams that we were initially assigned to work with contacted us with a question about programming. I was preparing a response, but someone else on the team already answered it while I was writing it."
