Purpose: Understand importance of product lines, describe commonalities and variabilities

Your company makes ATMs, but it is getting harder and harder to make money in that market. Your company wants to find other markets for the technology that it already makes.

1. Keep track of the amount of time you spend on this assignment.

2. Brainstorm other products you could make using the technology of ATMs. Select at least 3 other products to pursue further.

3. Describe the commonalities of the new products and ATMs. That is, describe how all the products are alike. Use a numbered list of sentences. You should have at least 10 commonalities.

4. Describe the variabilities of the new products and ATMs. That is, describe how each product is different from the others. Use a numbered list of sentences. You should have at least 20 variabilities.

5. Describe how you might produce all the products while minimizing duplicate effort. For example, describe how you might produce a subsystem for any product, and how you will tailor subsystems for different products.

6. Turn in the complete document. It should be about 2 pages long. Include a note indicating the amount of time you spent on the assignment.
