    Session 13

    1. Exam tomorrow. Unless I have given you permission to do otherwise because of disabilities, you must take the exam during your scheduled class hour.
    2. The exam is much more about analysis than design. Mostly, design is too hard for a 50-minute test.
    3. Starting with HW6B, all HW submissions must meet the following standards, or we will deduct up to 20 points:
      1. Must be easily readable; check this before submitting, and scan again if necessary.
      2. If it is a Word, PDF, Maple document, etc., problems must be in order.
      3. If it is handwritten and scanned or photographed:
        • Images should not be flipped or rotated.
        • If combined into a single document, pages must be in order.
        • If there are several image files in a ZIP file, each image file must have a name that indicates which problems it contains.

    Session 9

    1. A student wrote in the anonymous feedback survey:
Please don't hide old assignment dropboxes, so I can check what I submitted, or download it to another computer.
I had not thought of this problem; I was just trying to keep Moodle uncluttered for you.
I have changed this for assignments 1-4 and I will change it for later assignments.
    2. 47 of the 77 students still have an A or B+ average.
Only 9 have less than a C. Much better than before!
    3. In my office today: 11:45-3:20 (hours 5-8).

    Session 8

    1. In my office today: 11:45-2:45

    Session 7

    1. New policy (begins with HW4): Submit an assignment 24 hours before it is due and earn 2 extra points. Submit 36 hours early and earn 4 extra points.
    2. No implementation projects: I said last week that there may or not be major implementation projects. There will not.
      1. I plan to eliminate the major implementation projects and split some of the written assignments.
      2. For example, HW6 and HW 7 have a total of 21 problems.
      3. I will eliminate Implementation Project 1, then distribute those 21 problems over HW6A, 6B, and 7, so that each assignment is smaller (and you don't have the implementation problem)
      4. Date Previously Due New Due
        Dec 19 HW6 (12 problems) HW6a (7 problems)
        Jan 5 Implementation project HW6b (7 problems: 5 from current HW6, 2 from current HW7)
        Jan 9 HW7 (9 problems) HW7 (last 7 problems of current HW7)
      5. I have updated the schedule page to reflect this change.
      6. I will soon reconfigure the assignments.
      7. I will do similar things when I remove the other two implementation projects from the schedule.
    3. In my office today: 11:45-1:55, 2:00-4:00

    Session 6

    1. In my office today: 12:00-2:00, 3:30-4:30

    Session 5

    1. HW 2 due tonight, HW 3 is due Thursday
    2. Even though I allowed 6 people beyond the cap to take this course, there were 10 more students on the waiting list. You need to step up and do what it takes to do well on the homework. And to make up for any deficiencies from previous courses that you brought into the course
    3. 47 of the 78 students earned an A or B+ on HW 1. But 17 earned less than a C, including two students who did not submit at all.
    4. In my office today: 11:45-12:45, 2:30-4:30

    Session 4

    1. HW2 is due Monday. Did you start it yet?
    2. In my office today: hours 5-8.

    Session 3

    1. HW 1 due at 11:55 pm today, Not accepted late for credit
    2. On Tuesday evening, I added a clarifying note to problem #7 of HW1, and I posted a note on Piazza.
Be sure that you include the two things I mentioned on Piazza in your solution.
    3. HW 3 assignment documents have been posted.

    Session 2

    1. Note that HW2 is a long assignment.
I recommend that you do some of the problems before HW1 is due; if you do this you will spread out your workload more evenly. You should at least begin thinking about HW2 problems very soon.

    Session 1

    1. Diagnostic survey (on Moodle) due tomorrow before class.
    2. HW 1 due Thursday at 11:55 PM
