Reading Papers for Understanding vs. Reviewing Papers.

There is a difference between:
- reading papers and taking notes
- critically reviewing a paper
They serve very different purposes.
Reviews are an evaluation of the quality and contribution of the work.
Reading papers usually is generally to help you understand existing work.
Here are some of the things you should consider recording for each paper:
- What are the paper’s Title and Author?
- What is your take-away message from this paper?
- What are motivations for this work?
- What is the proposed solution?
- What is the work's evaluation of the proposed solution?
- What is your analysis of the identified problem, idea and evaluation?
- Is this a good idea?
- What are the contributions?
- What are future directions for this research?
- What questions are you left with?
- What are some cited papers mentioned in this paper that you would like to read next?
Additional things to consider recording as appropriate:
- What is the principal research question (if any)?
- What is the main finding? Supplemental finding(s)?
- What methods are used? (What are the stages? Interactions between stages? Data output?)
