CSSE 313: AI Presentation
In order to get a sense of the breadth of AI, as well as of current
research in this field, select and present a research article, a
research project, an interesting AI application, or an issue you care
about.
Topics
Think about, or use Google or AI to locate a topic of interest to
you. Feel free to google or use AI to identify resources such as
papers, demos or other multi-media sources that you can use to build
your presentation.
Organizational Aspects
- Please work on the project in pairs.
- Please send me an email with your proposal. It should contain the
following pieces of information:
- Both of your names, if you were able to find a partner for this
project.
- A (list of) link(s) to solid resources for your presentation
topic.
- A one paragraph write-up explaining the aim or your presentation.
- I will review your proposal, make suggestions as appropriate and let
you know whether it has been approved as is or with modifications.
- If more than one group in the same course section proposes to
present on the same research project and if the project is such that
it does not make sense that there are two presentations on it, then
the first group to propose the project will receive permission to
present it.
- You have to give a 15 minute class presentation give or take a few
minutes, followed by 10 minutes of questions and discussion. You may
use AI to assist you in preparing the presentation. HOWEVER. be
forwarned, if you present a paper and ask the AI to develop a 20
minute slide presentation, that will result in poor slides. Instead,
develop
In the past, students who simply asked AI to develop a 20 minute slide
presentation based on a link to a paper typically did a poor job. (i)
AI has a tendency to give a broad overview and not go into details. It
does not include pertinent information that is typically housed in
figures and tables, and the font size is too small. (ii) Students have
typcially not digested the paper and typically read the slides and are
not able to answer questions. [More to come.]
- In addition, you have to write a concise and well-written summary
of the research project, complete with references. The summary should
be about three pages long, single-spaced, Times New Roman font, 12pt
font.
- The summary and slides are due at the beginning of class on the day of your
scheduled presentation.
- Please notice that the summary and the slides should go hand-in-hand.
Contents
- Your presentation should begin with a brief introduction, stating
the aim of the work and how it fits into the AI landscape.
- You should then summarize the main contributions of the work.
- Demonstrate existing software, if available and accessible. You
may wish to contact the principle investigator for this purpose.
- Please use diagrams and other visual aids available on the
web-site or papers to help the audience understand the work done. Also
give a good example or two of the work they have done.
- Finish the presentation with a short evaluation of the
contribution made; focus on its significance.
- Briefly describe how one could extend the work.
