  1. There is a LOT to do for A11b, and it takes a little while to get "oriented" to what needs to be done.
If you have not already done all three prats (parse, unparse, error checking) for at least of couple of the cases, you need to get going on it right away.

  2. Reminder: There is a lot to do for A11b.
The good news is that there are dozens of parts, each mostly independent of the others.
Hopefully you did a few of those parts already, so you can see what needs to be done for the others.

  3. If not, I suggest that you do a few today

  7. TAs in F217 today: 3:25-5:10, 7:00-10:00

  2. I sent a long email this morning about some due-date changes (including a delay for A10) that many of you will find to be a great relief.
    Merry Christmas!
  3. Be sure to read my Piazza note from yesterday about running the define-syntax tests off-line.
  4. In my office today: hours 5-7
  5. TA hours in F-217: 2:30-3:20, 8:00-10:00

Session 15

  1. A11a late day has been turned to Grace Days:
You can submit A11a until the end of Friday Jan 4 without using a late day.
You can use a late day and submit by the end of Jan 5.
You can submit by the end of today (Jan 20) to earn a late day.
  2. If you have questions about the grading of your exam. see me this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon.
  3. Don't forget to submit the partner preference survey (on Moodle).
So far, 15 students have submitted; 12 of them have a mutually-agreed partner.
  4. In my office today: Periods 5-7.
  5. TAs in F217: 3:25-5:15, 7:00-11:00 PM (an extra hour each Thursday)

Session 13

  1. Reminder: You cannot use a late day for A9. Credit will only be given for what is submitted by 11:59 tonight.

G315 Section 01 plus Bock and Byers
    G3110 Section 02
    G317 Section 03
    G308 Students with extra-time accommodations.
  4. Exam 1: 40 points for each part, 5 problems for each part.
Written part: 4 problems ask you to read code. One problem asks you to write code.
  5. Final exam is Wednesday evening of finals week. SO it's OK to schedule plane flights for Thursday.
  6. After today's class, you should be able to do the define-syntaxproblems from A11a.
  7. Think about (and talk with other students about) an interpreter project partner (groups of 2).
    1. Generally I will let you choose your partner, if you and the other student agree.
    2. Your partner does not have to be in the same class section as you.
    3. Mutually-agreed partnerships almost always work better than ones that I choose. So don't be shy!
    4. Students who don't find their own partners and only list one or two preferences are much more likely to end up with an undesirable partner.
    5. Should be someone whose 304 understanding and programming ability closely matches yours.
    6. Also a good idea to choose someone whose late days history, favorite working hours and commitment to the project are similar to yours.
    7. "best friend" or fraternity bro/sis" partners sometimes do more to damage friendships than to help the 304 learning.
    8. I may veto a partnership if the difference between your exam scores is more than 20% of the total. This is not automatic.
    9. Partner preference survey (on Moodle) is due Friday at 11:55 PM.
    10. Survey will be available for you to complete after I post exam scores to Moodle (probably sometime Wednesday).
    11. I will announce partners no later than Tuesday, Jan 8.
    12. If your Exam 1 score is low, I will do my best to pair you with someone else in the same situation, so that neither of you is an anchor for the other.
    13. If your exam score is REALLY low, and you did not find a "mutually agreed" partner, I may say that I cannot in good conscience burden another student with being yoked to you.
    14. If after Exam 1 you are considering dropping the course, please try to decide whether to stick with it before the survey is due.
  8. In my office today: Periods 5-7.
