Overall I think the competition went very well, with all of the schools doing well. I really liked seeing all of the different robots and stragies. It was certianly an experience."	"Well, there's a lot you could "take away" from the competiton. I think the most important lesson to take away has to do with how middle/high schoolers approach teamwork. It's kinda cool to see it all come together."

Saturday was spent at the competition."	"As with previous attempts to build the robot, my team was hard to get together and lacked in their participation. For some, they felt like there was nothing for them to be doing even though I was openly suggesting they take on tasks. One member didn't even come to the meeting. And throughout, people came and went whenever they felt like it despite the urgency of the project. I was the only member to stay working from 1pm until 9pm while only taking an hour to go the carnival/festival to grab a bite to eat with what teammates were still with me. I found it very frustating that I was the only member that put in the time and energy to make the bot. Although in the end, I can attribute work to two of the the other four members, I assisted them in their tasks in order to get them done. I find this to be a trend in most of the group projects I have worked on. However, it is unfortunate that I had this experience in a course about teamwork."

"We spent many hours on Friday tweaking the robot to work and the following morning it completely failed. The reason, we determined later, was the two "top hat" distance sensors behaved much differently under the lighting conditions in the SRC than in the CSSE lab. The lesson that we learned here was that we needed to do more testing in the actual competition environment."

Weekend, misc. - think about & work on paper."	"Work on the bot was pretty normal, although one of our teammates couldn't work on it on Friday and wasn't there Saturday for the tournament because he was elsewhere. The Botball event itself went pretty well, although it seemed somewhat unorganized. I was one of the students who got to get the Beyond Botball baskets only to find that they hadn't been made yet. The tournament was really neat, although Beyond Botball obviously left a bit to be desired. I can't believe our team won with the showing we had. The HS / MS students, on the other hand, had amazing bots and they also worked pretty well together."

Worked from about 630pm friday to 630am saturday on our team's BB robot and helping set up the competition. Worked at the botball competition from noon until 6pm. Collapsed. 7 hours that occurred during this period are logged in May 11th's reflection."	"On Friday I went to the SRC, and helped setup for the botball competition, which mostly involved me setting up the lighting for the tables. Afterwards I started work on our beyond botball robot, which at that time included Andy, Meg, and me. Early on, we decided that our robot was not going to really make it in the big time, and decided our robot should dance and sing (move around and make music) instead of do anything having to do with balls or botguys or goals or anything. I think this was a very good choice. So while Andy worked on putting neumatics on our robot (in the on-the-tires, going up-and-down, pimp-mobile sorta neumatics way!) Meg and I worked on doing the music. Our method was mostly to use sheet music or MIDIs that we could open in Noteworthy Composer (to see the MIDI sheet music, in a way) and then to use a lookup table for each note to determine the frequency, then to calculate the length of the note in seconds, and then to put that all into a tone() function FOR EVERY NOTE. Are we crazy or what? We did that, and were able to come up with the Imperial March (Darth Vader's theme), Mr Roboto, and the Starman (Invincibility) theme from Super Mario. And it sounded awesome. So Andy had the neumatics done it seemed, and a claw that would grab the botguy at the beginning so we could dance around with him or whatever, and we had some "dance" code. We found out early on that our robot was NOT adept at turning, whatsoever. It was really horrible at it, even. Apparently the front tires couldn't take it, and would just fall over despite the fact gears from the motors were attached to them. So our robot couldn't dance in circles, which was like half of its repertoire, but it could still sing, thanks to forking a process being so easy, and it could still do neumatics sorta, and it could go forwards and backwards. After that, however, my cold had advanced to threat level orange, and I had to leave. Apparently soon after that the robot stopped downloading new programs because it didn't love us, and Andy and Meg went home too. Then Saturday I somehow managed to wake up 4 hours later and went over to the Botball Competition, where I learned that our robot was being stupid. And then later I learned that it wasn't charged, and was dying. So as it turns out, our hard work was mostly for naught, and we couldn't participate in the BB competition. So that sucked. I did, however, help in other ways, and also served as "that guy that passed score sheets from the table 2 judges to the botball head," which not only was a VITAL role, but let me watch all the competitions close up, which was pretty awesome. However, after all the regular competitions were done, and before the awards ceremony, I was just too tired to continue, went home, and crashed after ordering my mother flowers for Mother's Day."

Sunday I did some research for the paper."	"The botball tournament went well. I was interesting to see all of he kids scrambling at the last minute to get their bots to work. These students have had 8 or so weeks to get things working and even at the 11th hour they are having problems. It reminds me of us students at Rose and working on our projects."

On Saturday I went to the botball competition. I was a judge for the double elimination part of the competition. On Saturday I sent the professor an email regarding my research groups presentation. On Sunday Johnathan Sullivan came to my house so that we could work on building our presentation slides."	"The botball competition over the weekend was extremely fun. It was neat to see all of the students work together. I also enjoyed being a judge in the competition. It was interesting to see the students reactions when their robot either succeeded or fail short of expectations. Overall, I think the competition was a huge success. There werent any problems that I saw. I would have to say that this was one the most enjoyable weekend events that I have gone to for a while. On Sunday, Johnathan Sullivan and I were able to finish up our presentation report. We have now build all of our slides and research all of the report. We have now worked on this project for over 8 hours total. We should have a very successful presentation on Tursday."

"when i was being the judge, they have amazing and interesting ideas on how to tackle the problem. some opt for a fixed pattern (since the balls are starts at fixed position) while some use dynamic vision to see and process information in real time. i think i prefer the dynamic vision approach since it will be able to handle unexpected events (maybe the ball was moved accidentally or something)."

I stayed in the lab most of Friday desperately trying to put as much onto the robot as possible. The grappler arm was on and some hydrolic to make it as smooth as possible. FINALLY, the engine team had a solution to the pipe problem, albiet a little WAY too late. I left to attend a different meeting with the hopes that my team would put together the rest of the robot. The stuff and programing is all there. It just needs to be put together. I showed up at the Botball assembly meeting. Lots of building and pizza to be had by all. I got to understand what the normal Botball competition was going to be like as tables, playing boards and the like were assembled. The day of the competition, I ran the TV monitor. I enjoyed seeing the different botball designs and the different approaches to the game. Definately love the robot with the air powered grappling hook. It was a beauty to see in action."
